Week 1: Roaming Before School Starts

Hey all! It's been quite a wild and crazy week. But without further ado, I'm just going to post the photos and provide commentary as we go along. I'm not gonna spam my blog with all the photos otherwise it may take forever to upload so I'm only going to choose a select few. Enjoy!

PS. If you guys want postcards or anything, just leave me a comment with your address or a something to let me know.

Go Asiana!
Another view
This was what the weather looked like for pretty much the whole week =___=
SK Global Lounge, our dormitory area
A view of part of campus near the dorms

Luckily, I caught this red sky dawn on a Monday morning
SK Global Again
Streets near the dorm area
Typical $3 bowl of bulgogi and rice
Hello Chris and Dan!
Long time no see!
Ssamgyeopsal (Three layers of pork) roasted on the grill
Forgotten the name of it but pork covered in a kochujang (red chili pepper paste) and other sauces
Master Chef at work grilling the pork belly
Quite delicious and I'm sure Dan would agree
Leaf of lettuce or any other green + a dipping sauce + soy sauce marinated onions and bean sprouts + roasted garlic + a little bit of ssamgyeopsal = oh so damn good. Of course all of this wouldn't be complete with a few bottles of soju ;)
Naengmyeon (cold noodle) - oh so delicious and oh so cheap
Tteuk - Simple starchy, rice-like cake
Seafood Pajeon - Shrimp, Squid, Tomatoes, Green onions and more dipped in a egg batter and pan-fried to a crispy golden perfection. Goes perfect with the makgeoli
Makgeoli- a very sweet and smooth Korean rice wine. About 6-7% ABV
MM MM Delicious
Until next time!
Day trip to Namsangol Village
And what do we come to find but a bunch of hooligans playing games in the middle of a hot day. So here is how it works. There are two teams. The jumpers and the horse (as seen above). The goal is to survive all the jumpers without the horse breaking down. Least number of falls win. (or so I'm told)
They reallly go all out here

Lookit that height...
Playin' with a top
Obvious miss... This is actually a lot harder than it looks
Traditional Korean Drums
Yeaa go team!
"sup" "nm, just chllin'"
Shoes tied together from straw
G'bye Namsangol village
So this is the icon for a donut franchise. The thing around his head? No its not his mane, its a donut.
Donuts are SUPER expensive here though. Go to Donut Wheel in Cupertino instead :D
Salad with a grape-plum like dressing
Korean take on seaweed salad with a lil kick in it
mm mm more bulgogi w/ veggies in an iron cask pot (i think)
The result
Typical street vendors doin' their thang
whatcha got cookin' there?
So I couldn't catch the whole series in time but a trio of people give "funny show" (yes the engrish is intended) I can't even begin to explain how funny these Japanese-Korean people were. In any case they take a hard-o block of honey and poke-a hole one side, poke-a hole odda side. Pulll pulll pull and dippuh in corn starch and flour. Then do the stretching stretching stretching. Dipping stretching dipping stretching.
And WWWOOOWWWW. Fabulous! OMG like o-mah-gawd. Sixty-thousand strings of honey! So unbeleebabo!
My english not so good so I say "show me the money"!
The result - a block of honey pulled until it becomes 60,000 strings wrapped around almonds or walnuts or anything.
Seoul Tower nearing night time
A hanging wire shape of someone. Looking kinda like Spidey here. Pew!
Somehow I took the picture at the exact same time as the one above.. no photoshopping involved
Ze tower. The lines were ridiculously long and bombarded with Japanese people. We had to wait 30 minutes for the elevator up and 30 minutes for the elevator down. Damn your brothers and sisters Kanna! Just kidding!
Offff course there would be..
So inside Seoul Tower is a Teddy Bear museum which captures the history and current state of Korea
Yanno, just workin'
Fancy shmancy
Got kind of weird at some point though...
Just a typical teddy bear meal. The yoozh.
There were frikkin' LARGE teddy bears everywhere just like this
We weren't allowed to take pictures... but I snuck some in anyway

We found Spidey earlier. Now we see Superman
Soooooo Daphne, Andy, Vinh, and all you other Hello Kitty Fans.. you feelin' lucky today? :P
Some of the prizes
B-Boy Teddy Burrs
So people would buy tiles to write messages and paste them on the inside walls of the tower
This place is EXTREMELY coupley. Couples would buy locks and write their names and lock it to the trees and throw away the key
Yes, VERY coupley
An illuminated view of the tower at night
Our group took the cable car down the mountain without us... so we walked all the way down.. but luckily was able to see this shiny colorful fountain
I swear there were more colors than this
The of part of Seoul from the walk down from Namsan(Seoul) Tower

Engrish Section

Why yes! I would LOVE to eat at a Chiness Restraunt!
Hm...but wait I thought...maybe...I'm wrong?
Not.. what... where? Take into account that the elevator is the only way up and down the tower...
Happy Weddiig for Takashi and Tomomi! Yeyy
